If you want to visit the ultimate tropical location than you should plan Turks and Caicos vacations. There are plenty of gorgeous beaches, snorkeling, water sports, history and much more. There is plenty of accommodation choices right on the beach and you can find something for everyone. Turks & Caicos is a chain of several islands in the Caribbean and it has one of the longest coral reefs in the world. This spectacular water feature makes it very popular for divers and those that snorkel.
One of the best beaches in the world can be found in Turks & Caicos and you are just a short plane ride from anywhere on the US east coast. Grand Turk and Salt Cay make up the Turk islands with Grand Turk as the capital. This island was the first stop of Christopher Columbus on his famous voyage and is very historical. It you want to experience the history and culture of the island than you should not miss Cockburn Town.
A very small island with only about 80 inhabitants is Salt Cay. This island got its name from the salt industry that once was located on this island. Many of the homes found on the island are excellent examples of Bermudian homes. Taylor Hill is the perfect spot for whale watching during the winter months and there are also some great ruins you can explore.
There are more islands in the Caicos which include East Caicos, West Caicos, South Caicos, Middle Caicos, North Caicos and Providencials. Providencials is the most built up of the islands and also goes by the name Provos. There is plenty to keep everyone occupied as you can enjoy restaurants, hotels, villas, spas and shopping. There are also some spectacular beaches and the longest coral reef found in the world.
One of the most lush of all the islands is North Caicos as it gets the most rainfall of all. You can visit a lovely sheltered lagoon off the island and many beaches. This is a great island for birding as it contains the largest flock of pink flamingos in the world. Some luxury accommodation has recently been erected and some attractions and activities include bird watching, crafts and visiting a local Loyalist plantation.
If you are coming to Turks & Caicos for the diving experiences than you should visit West Caicos. This island is one of the least built up and has many sandy coves and reefs you can explore. The water is crystal clear and warm and much of the ecology is untouched. Some of the only history of the island can be seen in the ruins of Yankee Town as Sisal was once farmed on this island.
Caicos has a one of a kind attraction only found in the Caicos Islands; the Caicos conch farm. You can see how conch pearls are formed, view a conch show and enjoy some excellently prepared conch dishes. This farm is the main exporter for conch in the world.
Cheshire Hall is a great historical spot as this is a ruined cotton plantation that dates back over 200 years.
